Course Abstract

Therapy Tidbits – November/December 2018 is a 1-hour online continuing education (CE) course comprised of select articles from the Nov/Dec 2018 issue of The National Psychologist, a private, independent bi-monthly newspaper intended to keep mental health professionals informed about practice issues. The articles included in this course are:

ACA Hasn’t Reduced Health Care Costs – Explains the impact of the ACA on independent practice doctors and the new recommendation for payment parity for clinic visits.
Out-of-Office Encounters May Be Beneficial – Discusses the importance and benefits of out of office therapy sessions and encounters with clients.

Most Military Efforts Miss Target on Suicide Prevention – Provides an overview of the military’s current programs to support individuals struggling with suicidality and recommends a positive support process.
Closing Practice Not for Faint of Heart – Highlights the emotional toll that closing a private practice can have on clinicians and offers practical advice on how to prepare for this transition.
CBT: Helpful Hints for Clients – Lists cognitive behavioral therapy strategies for helping clients.
HIPAA Preempts State Laws – A review of HIPPA requirements regarding personal representatives after a patient’s death.
Empathy May Be Ill-Timed in Treating Trauma – Explains why offering empathy in the treatment of trauma patients may be counter-productive, but offers hope that with therapy the client may eventually be ready to accept a clinician’s compassion.

Customer Testimonials

C.C. (MHC)

This was the most relevant overall segment of articles I ever read is one of your issues.  Even the ACA Hasn't Reduced Health care costs was relevant to me personally with health care costs.  The article Empathy May be Ill-Timed in Treating Trauma was so comprehensive, insightful, well-articulated and relevant with my work with trauma patients especially those whose protective defenses are high due to loyalty to care-givers.  I'm re-reading it and filing it in my trauma article file.  Thank you for such a great issue.

B.B. (PY)

Concise articles of timely importance.

D.M. (PY)

I have subscribed to The National Psychologist for several years, but have never taken advantage of the CE credits that were offered through reading each edition.  I read every issue from cover-to-cover, and I wish I had elected to utilize the CE option many years ago.  This is a great additional benefit to subscribing to TNP.  The articles are excellent and totally relevant to being a Psychologist in today's changing healthcare environment.

A.G. (PY) PhD

Expert and convenient.

M.C. (PY)

Enjoyed the course and you were very nice on the phone.

J.C. (PY)

The military suicide article is very informative and included depth not usually found in this area of practice, and usually not typical of the  short clinical articles in The National Psychologist.
