The Suicide Survivor

Course Abstract
The Suicide Survivor is a 2-hour online continuing education (CE) course that provides an understanding and means of helping the people who have lost loved ones to suicide.
One of the most difficult and complex emotional adjustments many individuals will ever face is the challenging and often lengthy process of dealing with the suicide of a family member or other loved one. These people are called suicide survivors; the family members and close friends who have experienced the death of a family member or loved one by suicide.
Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence because nearly 45,000 people die by suicide each year in the United States alone. Estimates are that an average of six individuals experience major life disruption as a consequence of every suicide. The cascade of emotions that follow can be both unexpected and overwhelming, and many of the survivors who most need assistance in the form of supportive counseling do not receive it.
This course will provide information and helping strategies for health professionals who work with individuals who are struggling with both “normal” grief and complicated grief, sometimes described as “persistent complex bereavement disorder.” Also discussed are myths about coping with grief, the progression through the grief of suicide, stigmas associated with suicide, assessing for religious help, theories of grief, role of the therapist, needs of suicide survivors, and, finally, moving on.

Customer Testimonials
Excellent course; I am a suicide survivor and I felt as if I were looking in a mirror when reading the course. This course has validated my grief and propelled me to an even higher ground of growth through my experience as a suicide survivor.
I found this to be a difficult course. There is a lot of material and different theories/ideas. It was excellent. Every counselor/therapist/teacher should take this course. Clergy need it also. Thanks.
Complete review of the literature regarding suicide and grief process of survivors.
Good course. Added meat to the bones I knew. I was pleased to see Jeffreys 7 principles of human grief line up perfectly with what I have discussed myself with patients without ever seeing his work A useful guide in general, even for experienced therapists. A member of our non-profit board and former newspaper columnist is writing a book on this subject, and this course will be useful as I have been asked to review her book.
Helpful and convenient.

Well organized and informative.
Good information. I can certainly use it in my practice.
I have had other course on suicide, but felt I learned additional information from this course.
I found particularly interesting the outlining of the theories of grief which facilitates a comparative study of them in a very clear fashion. This course material is stimulating and helpful. Thanks.
Nice, detailed material.
Thank you, nicely organized and well written.
I am a suicide survivor and feel this course is very informative, as I have been through much of the process.
Very thorough with excellent case examples linked to the material. A very helpful course.
Extremely relevant information, both personally and professionally!
Great resources and website suggestions provided at the end!
Great material and excellent ideas to help clients.
I thought this course was well written, very educational and helpful!! Thanks.
Thank you for the information. I thought it was also helpful to discuss the therapist as a suicidal survivor.
For an "introductory" level course, I found so much good information, and so thoroughly written in here! I would recommend this course to other psychologists.
I would recommend this course to any professional working with teenagers.
I learned so much from this course! Thank you for providing me with new skills and knowledge to assist in my therapy with individuals and families.
This module was very interesting, thank you.
Very well laid out course, great theoretical models and interventions.
Wow! So well done! I loved that both a clinical person, as well as a faith-based person developed this training. Unfortunately, my recent experience in working with a Suicide survivor prepared me well for receiving and appreciating this excellent training. I am also a survivor and cannot express enough how beautifully you handled this topic. Thank you!
Very well done. As a survivor of parental suicide, I can say that the authors were right on target with their course.
Very well presented and the test questions were well designed.
Liked how so much content was made available in a short course. I will be keeping this information as a valuable reference.
The course was well presented and clearly understandable.
Very good job in providing education on a topic that very few clinical people know about.
Good course. I was really only familiar with the Kubler-Ross stages of grieving. It was nice to learn about the other stage theories of grieving.
This was an excellent course! The author did a wonderful job of providing theoretical underpinnings, historical context, and methods of direct application.
Very helpful and informative. As a survivor myself, it put many things in perspective.
I am very satisfied with this course and PDR overall. Keep everything the same. If it is not broken do not fix it.
One of the best courses. Should be required reading/study for all clinicians. Excellent supplementary resources provided in the appendices.
Very well organized, not only conceptually but on an emotional level. Very effective.
With the number of suicides increasing in the US population, this course is not only relevant, but vital for Psychologists and other mental health professionals to take for their own continuing education and their work with intensely grieving clients. Thank you for this informative course.
