Domestic Violence: Child Abuse and Intimate Partner Violence
Leo Christie, PhD$29.00
Course Abstract
Domestic Violence: Child Abuse and Intimate Partner Violence is a 2-hour online continuing education (CE) course that provides information on identifying and treating victims of domestic violence.
Domestic violence, in the form of child abuse and intimate partner violence, remains a pervasive part of contemporary life in the U.S. Its effects are deep and far-reaching. This course is intended to help healthcare professionals maintain a high state of vigilance and to be well prepared with immediate and appropriate responses when abuse is suspected or disclosed.
Information on the number of patients in a professional’s practice who are likely to be victims of domestic violence and the number who are likely to be perpetrators of domestic violence, screening procedures for determining whether a patient has any history of being either a victim or a perpetrator of domestic violence, and instruction on how to provide such patients with information on, or how to refer such patients to, resources in the local community, such as domestic violence centers and other advocacy groups, that provide legal aid, shelter, victim counseling, batterer counseling, or child protection services are included.
There is a special section on the complexity of an abuse victim’s decision about if, and when, to leave an abuser. This course will teach clinicians to detect abuse when they see it, screen for the particulars, and respond with definitive assistance in safety planning, community referrals, and individualized treatment plans.
This course meets the Domestic Violence license renewal requirement of all Florida licensees.

No Suggestions; excellent review of past learning and experience, yet expanding new information from the field as well.
Excellent module, well written, relevant research and clinical studies, with up-to-date statistics.
Thanks, I worked in child welfare for over 17 years and learned a lot. I am now in an educational setting, but this information is extremely valuable.
I work at the VA where there is a big focus on helping us learn to recognize IPV - the statistic about men and women having a similar lifetime prevalence (approx 1 in 3) was interesting to me. Thank you.
Thank you! Very helpful to use Florida as the example for states with different laws.
Important information given in a readable format.
Dr. Christie’s courses are always top notch.
While some of the presentation was review, there were several findings that were extremely helpful and illuminating!
This CE programs provides extremely important information and practical suggestions for helping others.
Very helpful course and clearly presented.
Another great course by PDR. Again, the use of case examples is very helpful and lead to a better understanding of the material being taught. Great job, PDR team.
One of the most informative course on this subject that I have taken.
In the question on learning, I chose the answer a great deal because, even though the course incorporates a great deal of review, I think review is important with this kind of material (as does the State of Florida per its standard requirement). The course showed some statistics had changed, such as the number of men who experience sexual violence has risen from 1 in 4 to 1 in 3, whether that is due to increased reporting or increased experiencing is up for debate. Regardless, the propensity for men to experience abuse is often underestimated. Due to the importance of the information in this course, I choose to take it every renewal period rather than every third renewal period. I appreciate that it is consistently available for this purpose.
The course provides great updates and reminders for a complex topic. I love the organization that is provided in this CE. Thank you.
Relevant information, clearly presented. Good course.
This is very familiar material for anyone who does family work but is a good review.
I appreciate PDResources. I can always depend on you for great courses with clear presentations. Thank you.
Excellent course!
Interesting studies. I was pleased to see that you are using the newer language of IPV.
I've been exposed to many DV & IPV classes and seminars over the years and this has been one of the most clear and concise courses I have taken in years.
Well formatted, relevant. Very helpful information.
Excellent course! The section on tips for clinicians working with victims who do not leave underscores the complexity of each client's decision. The course was comprehensive, well-written, and extremely useful. Thank you!
A well written well organized course concerning a very complex subject cutting across wide spectrum of very human issues.
This was a good course with a combination of refreshers and new information. The resources provided are also helpful.
Thank you for a great course! In 2015, I published an article with colleagues in the Journal of Family Theory & Reviewed titled Effects of Childhood Experiences of Family Violence on Adult Partner Violence: A Meta-Analytic Review. Our findings offered support for the literature also presented here - that family-of-origin violence does not play a central role in the development of adult IPV.
Another great course from PDR. Easy to read. Applicable to practice.
I was satisfied with the content, organization, and clear language presented. It updated my knowledge in the area. Thank you! I will recommend it to others.
This is one of the best programs I have had on domestic violence. It was presented in a clear and concise way. I like how much of the information was outlined and so easy to learn.
Solid, comprehensive DV course.
I like the ease of the site and course, Thank you.
The course has genuine application to psychologists in private practice.
Good and practical material to read and learn!
