Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for Autism
Rosemarie Griffin, MA, CCC/SLP, BCBA, COBA$29.00
Course Abstract
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for Autism is a 2-hour online continuing education (CE) course that provides evidence-based behavioral interventions for the minimally verbal child with autism.
The prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is holding steady at one in 54 children. The communication challenges of these children are widely known and require specialized early interventions to overcome them. Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is often described as the “gold standard” for autism treatment.
This course presents evidence-based strategies that can enable students with ASD and others who are verbally limited to become more effective communicators. The focus will be on the minimally verbal child, the child who has a small repertoire of spoken words or fixed phrases that are used communicatively. Included will be an overview of autism spectrum disorder, an introduction to the science of ABA, the use of manding in communication training, techniques for direct instruction programming, and inter-professional collaboration strategies. Major points are illustrated throughout by case studies from actual practice.

Customer Testimonials
Easy to follow and understand. As a clinician practicing these evidence-based skills, it was a good review and reassurance that I am doing things correctly.
This course will be helpful to SLP's working with students with autism spectrum disorders. The author shares her unique experience of being both a Speech-Language pathologist and a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst. The references shared are current. These include the CDC for the prevalence of ASD, THE DSM-5 for the latest definition of ASK, the National Autism Center for their study of evidence-based practices, and ASHA for best practice information. The author presents a good overview of Behavior Analysis and Verbal Behavior in a user-friendly way, understandable to those who may not have a background in this area. She emphasizes the importance of teaching manding first and makes this the focus of the CEU Course. The Therapy Shares provide concrete illustrations of the concepts in real-life settings and demonstrate specific therapy techniques and strategies. Overall, this course provides valuable training in what is currently being used in the field.
