License Expiration: DOI, every 2 years 
National Accreditation Accepted: Accepted if clearly related to practice
Notes: 3 hrs ethics; addiction counselors 6 hours diagnosis & treatment of substance abuse disorders required each renewal or professional counselors 6 hours diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders.

Marriage & Family Therapists (MFTs)

Per SB 40 and the Governor’s Executive Order 21-09, occupational licenses which would have expired during the pandemic will not be expired through May 28, 2021, or until the statewide State of Disaster Emergency is rescinded, whichever is earlier. If your license was set to expire 03-31-20 thru 04-30-21, you have until 05-28-21 to finalize the renewal process which includes completing the renewal application packet, completing the required number and type of Continuing Education Units for the specific license type, and paying the required renewal fee.

School Psychologists

Kansas State Department of Education

The Kansas State Department of Education certifies school psychologists. Kansas school psychologists can earn continuing education credit through 6 semester hours of university credit from a regionally accredited college or university within the 6-year period prior to application for renewal, or through completion of 120 additional Kansas inservice, or professional development hours, or by verification of three years of accredited experience. Psychologists who wish to practice outside a school setting must have a license issued by the Kansas Board of Psychological Examiners (http://ksbsrb.ks.gov/). The Kansas Board recognizes school psychology as a specialty within professional psychology.
